What is the Duke of Edinburgh Award
This award is open to all Year 10 students and requires a commitment of the full year. There are four sections to complete, including two walking expeditions. The DofE award is a fantastic opportunity and is not only fun and challenging but will provide students with the skills for life and work.
Through the volunteering section students will have a positive impact on other people’s lives and there is an endless list of different types of projects they can get involved in.
The expedition will challenge students physically and mentally. They will have to work in a team of up to seven and plan, train and complete the expedition together.
The Skills section is all about developing practical skills, social skills and personal interests. By choosing to develop a particular skill students are not only developing a new talent but will also boost their self-esteem and learn how to set and rise to a challenge.
Through the Physical section students should achieve a greater physical fitness through participation and improvement in physical activity. It's sure to make them feel healthier and they’ll have fun along the way.
Applications for the Bronze award take place at the end of Year 9 and begin right at the start of Year 10. There is a fee involved to cover the registration packs and the expeditions.
